    The Journey Begins!

    Morning Schedule:

Best Friends opens at 7 A.M.  The morning schedule begins with breakfast, free play,
snack, group time, hands on projects, outdoor play, stories and songs.

Breakfast is offered to children until 8:30 a.m.  Morning snack at 9:30 a.m.  Lunch at
11:30 a.m.  Rest time is typically from 12:30-2:30 p.m. using soothing music to
encourage relaxation.  Afternoon snacks at 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Meal times may
    vary according to children's needs.

    Afternoon Schedule

After lunch, rest time to soothing music, snack, stories and songs, outdoor play, and
structured free play.  The center closes at 6 p.m.

    Curriculum

Calendar and new newsletters are sent out monthly.  The teachers plan classroom
activities to foster the child's cognitive, language, social/emotional, and motor
skills.  Toddlers learn through lots of fun hands-on experiences.  There is a lot of
emphasis on individual play and free choice activities.  Teachers read and sing songs
regularly, encouraging the children's participation.  The staff are flexible and may
change planned activities according to the children's interests and needs.  Children
also participate in outdoor play.  Daily reports are provided to parents with
    information about your child's day.

    Social Skills/Biting

Because toddlers are so egocentric, sharing spaces and toys with other toddlers can
mean that problems arise.  Pushing, hitting, and scratching can be difficult to
minimize, but none are as stressful as biting.  Biting often occurs because they are
easily frustrated and toddlers cannot express their feelings verbally.  It is our goal
to provide all children a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.  The staff tries
to minimize the occurrence of problems.  The staff role models appropriate ways to
interact with each other while being clear that hurtful behavior is not allowed.  Staff
will respond to each situation in a consistent manner.

    Diaper Changing and Toilet Training

Diapers will be changed every two hours or more if
needed.  Children are encouraged to use the toilet
when they show readiness to do so.  These signs
include awareness of being wet or soiled, staying
dry for long periods of time, using words that
indicate toileting and expressing interest in
toileting. To achieve toileting success, it is
important for the parent to follow the same process
    at home.

    What To Bring

Parents need to supply enough diapers, wipes, diaper
creams (as needed), and change of clothing and bibs
(please label all items!).  Enough food and milk for
the day is also essential!  A crib sheet, small
blanket and pillow for rest time is also needed.
These items should be taken home on Fridays to be
washed.  Favorite dolls and pacifiers may be brought
in for rest time.  Sufficient clothing for outdoor
play must be labeled with the child's first and last
    name.
